For over 25 years, National Comfort Institute (NCI) has helped the HVAC industry discover new ways to
ensure that residential and commercial customers enjoy the safest, healthiest, most comfortable, and
energy-efficient indoor environments possible.

In support of NCI’s mission to help the industry, Rob Falke (NCI co-founder and President) chaired a
committee to develop a brand new ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 221-2020, entitled “Test Method to Field-
Measure and Score the Cooling and Heating Performance of an Installed Unitary HVAC System”. The
purpose of ASHRAE Standard 221-2020 is to prescribe a field evaluation and test method to measure
and score the performance, in terms of delivered cooling or heating capacity, or cooling efficiency, of an
installed unitary HVAC system.

In this program, NCI’s David Holt discusses how to use this standard to stand out from the crowd in a
competitive HVAC market. David will discuss five important topics including:

• Typical HVAC system performance
• Motivating consumer behavior
• A new high-performance standard
• Sell more high-efficiency jobs

David Holt is the third generation of the Holt family to be involved in the HVAC industry. In 1956, his
grandfather started an HVAC business in his Columbus GA backyard. David’s father took over the
business in 1977 after a 21-year NAVY career. In 1991, David joined the family business after selling his
service management software business, H2 Solutions. In 1992, David led the company into the high-
performance HVAC approach by bringing advanced testing, diagnostics, and design practices into their
operation. In 1999, the $3.5M family business was sold to a consolidator and David began his HVAC
coaching and consulting career. He currently serves the industry as the Director of National Accounts for
NCI.
